An IDE is an integrated development environment. A custom MathProg IDE for GLPK may offer:
- syntax highlighting for the MathProg language
- keyword completion and other convenience shortcuts
- easy execution of the current model
- model and results visualization
- model version control
In addition, some IDEs are designed to be cross-platform in order to provide a similar experience on different operating systems — for instance, Windows, Mac, and Linux.
GLPK IDEs are distinct and different from application development IDEs, such as Microsoft Visual Studio.
