Turmeric as a natural indicator
Definition of an indicator
The substance which is used to test whether the given substance is acidic or basic in nature is called an indicator.A type of indicators which are found naturally are called natural indicators.
Examples of an indicator
Turmeric, China rose petals, litmus, red cabbage etc.
Acids
vinegar (acetic acid)
Orange, lemons (citric acid)
Curd (lactic acid)
Grapes, Tamarind (tartaric acid)
Bases
soap solution
Baking soda
Tooth paste
Lime water
The effect of turmeric indicator on acidic and basic solution
Turmeric paper (yellow colour) turns into red when it is dipped into basic solution. And it does not change its colour with acid.

Effect on China Rose
We can use China rose petals (pink colour) as an indicator which turns acidic solutions to dark pink and basic solutions to green.
