I have Ubuntu 16.04 and it reboots all of a sudden. I'm pretty sure this happens without any association with what I'm doing on the computer.

Here is my log from a few minutes or seconds before it happens:

UPDATE:

I've ran memtest for over 16 hours with 1 pass and 0 errors at 25%, test #3. I had to shut it down because it froze at that instance. It remained on test # 2 for over 13 hours, so I skipped it. Then that happened...

Also, here is the log that appears before the lock screen:

I've cleaned up the log for you with formatting that makes it easier to read. But yeah, text format and not screenshots or even worse photographs of screens is appreciated. Welcome to the site. – anonymous2 Apr 24 '18 at 15:17
  • Have you run a memtest? – anonymous2 Apr 24 '18 at 15:18
  • Reboots? Or returns to login screen? – Elder Geek Apr 24 '18 at 15:33
  • Reboots completely – VicenteCH Apr 24 '18 at 15:34
  • In terminal... type grep -i temp /var/log/syslog* and see if you get anything that indicates a heat/temperature related shutdown. – heynnema Apr 25 '18 at 00:11
  • @heynnema I did it, it shows Source ID (several prompts like this with different numbers, like 58 or 247) was not found when attempting to remove it. What's this? – VicenteCH Apr 25 '18 at 10:39
  • @anonymous2 please look at the update. Thank you – VicenteCH Apr 25 '18 at 10:40
  • It does sound like it could be a RAM issue (though heynnema also has a good point). If you have multiple sticks of RAM, I would recommend taking out all but one stick, and seeing if it still does it. If it does, swap it out for a different stick (and a different DIMM slot) and see what that yields. While you're at it, install some heat sensors and keep an eye on them. Also, while you are in the computer, move your hand over vital components to feel how hot they are. – anonymous2 Apr 25 '18 at 11:30
  • @VicenteCH edit your question to include the terminal output of sudo dmidecode -t memory and sudo lshw -c memory. Is this a laptop or desktop computer? – heynnema Apr 25 '18 at 11:51
  • @heynnema included... It's a laptop – VicenteCH Apr 25 '18 at 19:40
  • @anonymous2 will try today or tomorrow and let you know as soon as possible. – VicenteCH Apr 25 '18 at 19:40
  • @heynnema it looks weird because I translated some parts in spanish. – VicenteCH Apr 25 '18 at 19:51
  • @VicenteCH move the SODIMM to the other slot and run memtest again. (Normally, for optimum performance, you add memory in pairs, so, two 4G SODIMMS in your case, instead of one 8G SODIMM). – heynnema Apr 25 '18 at 20:52
