On Ubuntu 16.04.6 I am trying to run the command

sudo apt update

but I get the following error:

...
Hit:27 https://dl.bintray.com/getinsomnia/Insomnia Release
Hit:31 https://packagecloud.io/slacktechnologies/slack/debian jessie InRelease
Reading package lists... Done
E: The repository 'http://ppa.launchpad.net/jonathonf/python-3.6/ubuntu xenial Release' does not have a Release file.
N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.
N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.

I get the same error when I remove files like

sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/*

as suggested in one other similar question HERE.

What else can I try?

  • I have no idea what you are talking about. Any useful suggestion that helps me fix this problem? – Alex Feb 20 '20 at 07:43
