I wanted to know can I install Java and other software on persistence Ubuntu (USB drive). How can we do that because when I tried sudo apt install default-jdk I got a msg related to dpkg and something that the drive is only read only,?

1Probably not worth the hassle (why not use a VM, dual boot or WSL?) but if you really want to do this, you need a live persistent USB. See this and this. – Brian Z Jul 28 '20 at 21:32

If you are getting the message that the Drive is read only then you probably dont have required permissions to install Java. I think you have made a live USB of Ubuntu instead of a persistant live USB
