Why not install HPLIP from the Ubuntu repos? Or download it from https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/gethplip? – heynnema Dec 03 '20 at 03:03
  • Thank you both fro responding! Heynnema, I'm downloading the HPLIP sw from the HPLIP site as you suggested. N0rbert, I followed your instructions and ran sudo apt-get install hplip hplip-gui. That command completed with no errors, but where do I go from there, how do I actually get the printer setup? I'm a newbie to linux, so it's not apparent to me what next steps should be. – Richie Harris Dec 04 '20 at 01:16
  • I was able to run the make command from within the hplip folder, here's the last part of the output.......... collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status Makefile:5180: recipe for target 'libhpdiscovery.la' failed make: *** [libhpdiscovery.la] Error 1 – Richie Harris Dec 04 '20 at 02:11
  • Simply run hp-setup . – N0rbert Dec 04 '20 at 07:22
