Problem in instaling wine64 and wine32 on Ubuntu 20.04

Question

Whenever I try to install wine64, it tells me to remove important packages and I don't know how to solve this.

Installing wine64 results with the procedure below:

$ sudo apt install wine64

it looks like wine32 is missing, you should install it.

After this error, I was also trying to install wine32 which resulted with a dependency error:

I also tried other tutorials to install winehq-stable but it say it has unmet dependencies.

I did aptitude also it recommended to leave wine32 packages as it is. So it is not doing anything if the solution is approved. What should I do?

I would say you should first do:

sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade -y
sudo apt dist-upgrade -y
sudo apt install wine

@yashaskr Have you tried the official wineHQ installation guide? Overall, if your system did not have any prior apt or dpkg errors when installing new packages, installing winehq-stable should result with no problems and usually only needs this installation command: sudo apt install --install-recommends winehq-stable. – Pizza Apr 20 '21 at 04:51

@Pizza Thanks, the wineHQ instructions worked for me on Xubuntu 20.04, albeit with a short detour through their missing packages FAQ (had to go up along the missing dependencies messages for i386 until I found a package that would succeed, then I did the winehq-stable command from the end of your comment again and this time it finished successfully). – Don Joe Mar 05 '23 at 18:40
