I just upgraded today from 18.04 to 20.04, I am not sure if there was a mistake made in the upgrade. I am not able to upgrade a lib and do-release-upgrade to the newer version due to this lib.

I have included some outputs below for a lib thats isnt upgrading and allowing me to continue:

Could I simply remove that lib? Any advice is welcome.

  • Check you've not put holds on packages such as the one you list (apt-mark showhold), but I'd explore why someone on your system has added a 18.04 package & check your Ubuntu product & release (details do not match a 20 system; and 20 is not 20.04) – guiverc Jan 12 '23 at 21:44
  • Sorry, I was being imprecise. I went from 18LTS to 22LTS which is 20.04. Description: Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS And the mark hold command shows nothing. I am the sole user of this device. So it would have to be me who added that package. I just upgraded from 18LTS to 20LTS today. Maybe one of the packages were not properly upgraded. – ScipioAfricanus Jan 12 '23 at 21:48

  • Updated the q, how would I go about reviewing pkgs? Is there an easy/quick way to do it? Would it make a difference if I just removed the lib? – ScipioAfricanus Jan 13 '23 at 00:55
  • Please add all information to the question by [edit]ing it instead of using comments for this purpose. Check if the packages depend on a specific version of mesa-opencl-icd and if these are held to an older version. You could try to remove the lib but this may break or remove the packages that depend on it. – Bodo Jan 13 '23 at 13:21

Before removing mesa-opencl-icd run a simulation of what removing this package would do without actually removing anything. Note that this command should not be run as root or prefaced with sudo because it is just a simulation.

apt remove --simulate mesa-opencl-icd

If you can't remove mesa-opencl-icd you can simply upgrade it with sudo apt install mesa-opencl-icd
