There are many questions about failed suspension on ubuntu ([1][2]), but each of them seem so specific that I'm posting mine. In my case, sometimes (very randomly) my XP15 does not suspend. I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 updated to current date. My syslog states:

As it seems the problem is on the video card. The result from lspci | grep VGA returns.

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF108M [GeForce GT 540M] (rev a1)

Which is strange, is that I'm not using the NVIDIA card (since both nouveau and official drivers are not stable in my machine).

Any hints for a next step?

I think it's the same problem reported as "laptop suspend broken after latest kernel update".

Please report that this bug affects you at Bug #1329689

  • Solution involved reinstalling ubuntu and using only the intel card with the proper drivers =[ – Fabricio Buzeto Oct 06 '14 at 11:22
  • @FabricioBuzeto, unfortunately, my laptop has only the nvidia card, then the only solution is to install the proprietary drivers as explained at http://askubuntu.com/a/507299/11223 – Marcello Nuccio Oct 06 '14 at 23:54
  • Marcello, I have a dual card laptop and the NVIDIA drivers has always proven to be very unstable with me. No matter how low my expectations are placed =[ But thanks for the help anyway =] – Fabricio Buzeto Oct 07 '14 at 18:38
