My PC conf is: Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T5250 @ 1.50GHz × 2 wi 2Gb RAM

I am using LibreOffice 4.2.7.2

My libreoffice is extremely low, even when workin on empty documents. It may take 10 seconds to open the tools dropdown menu.

I tried several tricks published on this forum such as disabling the Java runtime environment (Why is my LibreOffice so slow?) and on other websites, i.e. increasing the memory cache (https://www.organicweb.com.au/17237/general-technology/libre-office-slow/).

BTW: my PC has dual-boot and LibreOffice is working fine on windows vista.

Your solution solved my problem, thanks! You should turn your comment into an answer.

UPDATE AFTER FEW HOURS OF TEST: in order to have libreoffice run smoothly I continuously have to delete the recent file history. It's frustrating. Since I work a lot on network files, I suspect that this might be the issue. Will post updates.

UPDATE AFTER THE COMMENT BY @lepe: My LibreOffice version is now 4.2.8.2 and the problem is still the same. I am positive that if I have some files accessed by VPN over the network in the recent files the application is more severely slowed down, but I have no idea on the reason. I just delete the recnt files every day (or more than once a day).
