My T440s thinkpad randomly freezes when running both the LTS and current Ubuntu release. I haven't be able to identify a pattern to the freezes.

This happened on Mint 17.1, so I tried fresh installs of Ubuntu 15.04 and Ubuntu 14.04 and it happens on both.

I have Intel Graphics.

No escape shortcuts seem to work, I've tried all of them including ctrl-alt-backspace and alt-printscrn-R/E/I/S/U/B

Here are my last 10 minutes of syslog entries before it freezes up, if anyone can offer suggestions I'd be very happy!

  • encountered similar issue after installing newer version of intel graphics driver – Dfr Aug 12 '15 at 09:38
  • I'm on Ubuntu 15.04 now, I haven't manually updated any drivers but it still happens -- usually when I'm out of the house connecting to other wi-fi points (unsure if this is related). No idea how to solve it. The next time it happens when I'm on site with a customer I'm just going to jump ship to apple I think. – Matthew Rathbone Aug 18 '15 at 20:30
  • I guess in your case Unity is freezing when perform some GPU calculation. I don't use unity, but if there is option to disable GPU accelerated visual effects or something like that. But root of the problem is in Intel graphics driver. Another option is to try to install newer version of driver from https://01.org/ – Dfr Aug 20 '15 at 14:29
