Not able to install VLC on 14.04

Question

here is result when I typed Can anyone solve my problem? after doing execute command of following

 install libavcodec-extra

I realized that vlc and golden dict disappeared. some other apps may also be affected by the command but so far i have confirmed were the two.

I executed command sudo apt-get autoremove that removed some files. but still I am not able to restore my vlc and golden dict.

When I do apt-get update I will get error of PUBLIC KEY

What happens when you update the repositories before installing? Sudo apt-get update — xangua, Jul 10 '15 at 12:44

As far as I can tell, the upstream maintainers occasionally screw up the dependencies of packages. That may be what happened here. Consider filing a bug on launchpad, and otherwise just wait for it to be fixed. In the meantime, you could try using smplayer, which I personally prefer to vlc.
