I am running our gaming application of embedded hardware running ubuntu 16.0.4 LTS.

I want to remove pulseaudio modules and use ALSA directly from our application.

I removed pulseaudio using the following command:

sudo apt-get --purge remove pulseaudio

After that I rebooted my system to let the ALSA take over as default sound system without pulseaudio.

The sound cards listed in /proc/asound/cards are:

When pulseaudio was installed and running in the system, I selected 4.1 Amplifier device in sound settings for Output and I could hear sounds in sound test. Even VLC Player also worked fine.

But now after uninstalling pulseaudio,I am trying to play sounds on card 2 USB-Audio - 4.1 amplifier devices listed in aplay -L but the volume is so low that I can bearly hear any sounds.

I made sure that the volume is unmuted and set to 100% for 4.1 Amplifier sound card in alsamixer but still the volume is super low.

Not sure what is happening here ?

  • @luchonacho The problem is that my gaming application does not work if I kill pulseaudio. and I believe that is because alsa is configured for pulseaudio. Is that correct ? If yes, then the answer you mentioned does not solve this. – Monku Aug 26 '16 at 21:22
  • Mmm, remove pulseaudio seem to be a risky business. You can still use Alsa. Check this website –  Aug 26 '16 at 21:28
  • I did what the weblink said but I am getting error. The error is in snd_pcm_open with pcm name as default. It returns error ( -ENOENT) saying no such file or directory. – Monku Aug 26 '16 at 22:41

  • I do not know how this is the duplicate of the mentioned question! I want to disable pulseaudio permanently. None of the solutions , mentioned in the duplicate link, work for me. – Monku Aug 29 '16 at 17:00
