W: Operation was interrupted before it could finish

You will see that the ClamAV operation was doing so well, so I pressed CTRL + C a few times, though this had no impact on the ClamAV Freshclam updater which was running. However later on (as you will see right at the end) it says that the operations was interrupted before it could finish.

I have tried running sudo dpkg --configure -a and sudo apt-get install -f as is normally recommended, however neither of those commands return any error nor think there is anything more which needs doing. There is also no error when running sudo apt-get dist-upgrade again, though there are no new packages to install.

I still feel uneasy though, is there anything I should do? I am running Ubuntu GNOME 16.04.1 with GNOME 3.20, should I perhaps reinstall all the packages it was upgrading there or can I check what else needs doing?

  • Tip: Never, EVER, try to stop an apt operation. If you don't want it, wait for it to finish and then remove it. This is how I broke my computer once! – Aly Aug 31 '16 at 21:38
  • @moo_we_all_do: I didn't want to stop the rest of the apt operation, in fact I wanted the packages to be upgraded, it just got stuck on the clamav update for some reason so that's what I wanted to stop, not the whole thing. I thought I'd be able to start it all up afterwards though, but apparently not... I will be more careful in future, but it just seemed stuck, I didn't know what to do. –  Aug 31 '16 at 22:56
  • @moo_we_all_do I've done that too. Never again! – WinEunuuchs2Unix Aug 31 '16 at 23:38
  • @ParanoidPanda I'd joke that ClamAv probably has a virus but that might make you paranoid. This link talks about rebuilding depednancies – WinEunuuchs2Unix Aug 31 '16 at 23:46
  • Might thw warning be from update-initramfs instead of apt-get maybe? Just a thought... – Byte Commander Sep 01 '16 at 00:11
  • @ByteCommander: I think you're maybe right, it doesn't seem to do anything after that. –  Sep 01 '16 at 09:54

In that case you might simply run sudo update-initramfs -uk all to update/rebuild all known initramfs. It can not hurt anyway. – Byte Commander Sep 01 '16 at 10:55
