Edubuntu is an official flavor of Ubuntu crafted for use in the education world. Use this tag for questions specific to this flavor. Edubuntu was revived as an official flavor with Ubuntu 23.04.

Edubuntu (aka Ubuntu Education Edition) is an official version of Ubuntu Linux designed for use in classrooms and schools. The latest release is Edubuntu 23.04, which will be supported for 9 months, until January 2024.

Edubuntu has some features that makes customizing for educational purposes easier:

  • The Edubuntu Installer can be used to configure the system with predefined settings for a specific age group and educational level (Preschool, Elementary, Middle/High and College/University).
  • The Edubuntu Menu Administrator can be used to configure which applications are hidden in the menus for non-root users.
