A RISC-based processor architecture built by IBM. It was the standard CPU in pre 2006 Apple Mac computers (G3, G4 and G5) and Sony PS3 Playstations.
Power PC is a RISC-based processor architecture, which means it is not compatible with software compiled for the more familiar Intel architecture. Special CDs/DVDs with PowerPC compatible kernels and software are made available by the Ubuntu community, but PowerPC is not an officially supported architecture in Ubuntu.
Support was previously provided when the PlayStation 3 and Apple computers required this architecture.
