Work during day - Unix scripting, Teradata SQL writing, occasional mainframe COBOL, JCL, Parm writing. Analysis of all of the above (logs, output, input, file transfers, etc). Have used/worked with UNIX/Linux since the 80's (yes, on my personal machines at home); SOLARIS, AIX, BSD, SUSE, Ubuntu. Perform/assist admin functions at time on work Linux servers due to having mostly Windows sysadmins around. Best days for me are when I am told, "You cannot do A (function/task) with B (software, hardware, language)"... and then doing A with B.

Favorite (amusing?) observations: If the software is purchased as-is, at some point in time it will be found to be not as-needed. All software has shortcomings in design and unique strengths. Ignore the former and leverage the latter if you value your sanity and longevity in this industry. There is no shell script that cannot be made completely useless by someone editing it in a word processor.

Ubuntu has been on my PC's (desktop/laptops) since 2004.

I enjoy golfing with my friends so they have something to laugh about (me). I enjoy my family, both immediate and extended (and very extended).
