A linux (primarily ubuntu) user as preferred home desktop system(s) since 2007. Converted from MEPIS to Ubuntu 7.04 because Ubuntu had foreign language support down (Korean). I was also a convert from KDE 3.5 to Gnome 2.xx in the process (hated Gnome at first, but grew to love it).

Unity took me a bit to get used to; however, after a while and especially after 13.10, I really started to appreciate Unity.

Being open minded and willing to give it a fair shake, I find that New GNOME Shell is very good (a lot to love, especially once tweaked with addons). I also like Cinnamon quite well. Very clean and smooth. The only interface I couldn't really get in to using is new KDE4.X. But the great thing about Linix is you have MANY options to choose what suits you best. Don't hate or bash other projects... just say "it doesn't suit me."

Finally, the dichotomy of open source variety is that progress is diluted because of lack of focus of energy/effort on key elements. I wish we had more focus on developing very solid core applications before going and creating 15 other applications.

Bottom line, if you aren't a linux user on your desktop... you should give it a REAL chance and while doing so, remember, Linux is not Windows nor is it Mac. You wouldn't "date" a new person while always talking about how your "X" did things. Don't do that when trying a new OS either... rather, take an opportunity to learn about the beauty of the new person and the uniqueness... in the process you will also learn a lot that is similar to what you already know.
