Retired 50-year career computer geek, mostly hardware level diagnostic and emulation stuff. Master of Software Engineering degree. Have taught and supported C and COBOL compilers, used a bunch of assemblers. Unix/Ubuntu experience confined to simple server setups and plenty of ksh and bash scripting to make users' lives easier.

Now using Ubuntu Server on systems purchased as "bare bones" to avoid the "Microsoft tax". The two Ubuntu machines maintain rotating Windows backups and delay purging of deleted files.

Non-computer stuff: Commercial pilot (Airplane single and multiengine land, DC=3 type, and rotorcraft helicopter). Retired CFI/CFII/MEI (Flight instructor ratings). Did a lot of flying as side work during main career in computer geekry.

Since retirement, I convert quality hardwoods into sawdust and noise. Occasionally, something interesting or beautiful falls out.
