Latin II/In the city Lesson 2
Salvēte omnēs! Welcome back to Latin for Wikiversity. Last time we learned about public buildings. Today we'll learn about shops and private buildings in a Roman city.
New Grammar
To describe what kind of shop something is, Latin often uses a genitive:
- taberna librāria = bookshop (literally "shop of books")
- taberna vīnāria = wine shop
We can also use the suffix -ārius/a to describe shop types or shopkeepers:
- librārius = bookseller
- vīnārius = wine merchant
