The Ubuntu Software Center gives you instant access to thousands of open-source and carefully selected free applications.
Ubuntu Software Center
The Ubuntu Software Center (USC) is equivalent to the Mac App Store, Google Play, the Windows Store and similar digital distribution platforms found on modern operating systems in modern or mobile devices and gaming consoles.
The USC was introduced in Ubuntu 9.10 with the goal to replace software components in the user interface for installing, removing, and updating software in Ubuntu like the Synaptic package manager, which was removed from the default installation in 11.10.
The Ubuntu Apps Directory is a web-interface for the USC .
Click packages
Click packages, the new packaging format for Ubuntu mobile applications, are currently only available in the USC on Ubuntu Phones. It is expected that these packages and applications will become available on the desktop once the default installation of Ubuntu ships with Unity 8.
